Valerie Bertinelli’s ex, Mike Goodnough, shares insights on their emotional breakup.

  • He posted a poignant Instagram message expressing the pain of their split.
  • Goodnough accepted blame for issues arising from a past post, worsening tensions.
  • Although their romantic ties ended months before, emotional closeness lingered until recently.
  • Despite outside interferences, their deep love was never questioned.

Mike Goodnough recently opened up about his breakup with actress Valerie Bertinelli, calling their relationship ‘complicated’. Sharing his feelings on Instagram, he admitted, ‘Writing this post makes me absolutely miserable, but it feels like something I have to do.’

Earlier conflicts emerged, sparked by one of Goodnough’s own posts. He regretted this, acknowledging it exacerbated existing issues between them. He accepted responsibility, ‘I wish I hadn’t. The issue addressed was real. My post made it worse rather than better.’

Despite their romantic relationship ending months ago, Goodnough noted the emotional connection had only recently concluded, making the breakup feel more ‘fresh’. He spoke of ‘things outside of [their] relationship’ that interfered, yet their mutual love was unaffected.

Goodnough emphasised that his love for Bertinelli was profound, ‘The one thing that was never an issue was our love for each other. I loved Valerie more than I’ve ever loved someone in a relationship of choice.’ This deep affection contrasted with the challenges they faced.

Reflecting on the breakup, Goodnough described it as an excruciatingly painful experience, saying, ‘What was once a 10 is now a four.’ Their journey, starting in January 2024, marked by public affirmation in March, has now come to a heartfelt close.

While their love remains undeniable, it’s clear that external factors left a significant mark on their relationship.
