The ‘Survivor’ community mourns as ‘Survivor: Africa’ star Kim Johnson has died, according to her family.
Kim’s daughter, Kerry Johnson Tichi, confirmed the sad news on Monday, sharing that her mother had passed away. Kerry remembered Kim as “the coolest mum and grandmother in the world,” though she did not disclose the cause of death.
Kerry added, “Our mum leaves a legacy of strength, resilience, kindness, and generosity. She wore her rose-coloured glasses right up until the end. We will miss her forever.”
Kim’s ‘Survivor’ co-star Ethan Zohn shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, expressing how blessed he felt to have competed alongside her. He promised to have a planter’s punch in her honour.
Kim is best remembered for her impressive run on ‘Survivor: Africa’ in 2001, where she finished in second place. At 56, she was the oldest person to win the Final Immunity Challenge and the oldest female competitor to reach the Final Tribal Council.
Unfortunately, this is not the first loss for the ‘Survivor’ community in 2024. Earlier this year, Season 1 contestant Sonja Christopher passed away at the age of 87. Kim was eight years younger.
Kim Johnson’s legacy will be remembered fondly by her loved ones and the ‘Survivor’ family. She was a shining example of strength and kindness that resonated with many.
Rest in peace, Kim Johnson. Your spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved you.
