Police are considering pressing charges against multiple people in connection to the sudden death of Matthew Perry, as reported by People. A law enforcement insider revealed that the federal investigation into Perry’s death is nearing its conclusion, after which decisions regarding charges will be made.

Perry, best known for his role on ‘Friends’, died accidentally at the age of 54 from the acute effects of ketamine. His autopsy also noted drowning, coronary artery disease, and the presence of buprenorphine, an opioid, as contributing factors. He was found unresponsive in the hot tub of his Los Angeles mansion in October 2023.

Throughout his life, Perry struggled with substance abuse issues. He had openly discussed his use of ketamine for pain and depression relief in his 2022 memoir, ‘Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.’ However, he admitted to disliking the drug, describing it as making him feel ‘dying.’

The investigation was officially completed by the Los Angeles Police Department in January, but TMZ reported in May that federal authorities continued to look into Perry’s use of ketamine. Dr. Bankole Johnson theorized that Perry likely obtained ketamine illegally for recreational use, calling the combination of ketamine and buprenorphine a ‘recipe for disaster.’

Despite his struggles, Perry was believed to be sober in the months leading up to his death. He once mentioned spending around $9 million on efforts to get clean. Perry used his experiences to help others, turning his Malibu beach estate into a men’s sober living facility in 2012. He expressed a desire to be remembered for his contributions to helping people live sober lives, rather than his famed role on ‘Friends.’

The conclusion of the federal investigation may soon bring answers and accountability in the tragic death of Matthew Perry.
