Kehlani was granted a temporary restraining order against their ex Javaughn Young-White on Friday, accusing him of physical, verbal, and emotional abuse.
The singer, known for hits like “After Hours” and “Distraction,” filed in the Superior Court of Los Angeles to protect themselves and their 5-year-old daughter, Adeya. The decision came after an alleged incident in mid-June, where Young-White reportedly smashed through their locked bedroom door in a fit of rage.
Kehlani, who uses she/they pronouns, claims the abuse has been ongoing for years, even during their pregnancy. Young-White allegedly called them a “bitch” and “liar” and accused them of trapping him by having their child.
The court documents also reveal that Young-White had applied for public assistance without Kehlani’s knowledge, leading to a confrontation. At the time, he was allegedly living on their property, smoking marijuana daily, and taking psychedelics. Kehlani accused him of lacking hygiene and disappearing for months, returning their daughter filthy and reeking of marijuana.
Kehlani described Young-White’s behaviour as erratic, claiming he suffers from periods of despair and uncontrollable anger. They mentioned incidents where he threw items and called them horrible names, behavior that scared them and likely upset their young daughter.
Despite allowing Young-White on their property to try and maintain a relationship with Adeya, Kehlani decided enough was enough after five years of chaos and abuse. They want to protect their peace and their daughter’s wellbeing.
Young-White fired back by sharing alleged text messages from Kehlani on social media, suggesting they were framing him for abuse. He accused Kehlani of busting through the door themselves and being part of a cult controlled by a leader dictating their actions and behaviours.
In response, Kehlani strongly denied these claims on Instagram, labelling the accusations as hurtful and untrue. She emphasised that she has never placed her child in harm’s way or left her alone with dangerous individuals.
The temporary restraining order will expire after the scheduled hearing on September 3. Meanwhile, the custody battle over their daughter continues, with Young-White seeking full custody and making further allegations against Kehlani.
The legal battle between Kehlani and Javaughn Young-White continues to unfold, with the singer determined to protect their daughter and themselves from further harm.
