Carrie Underwood took a trip down memory lane, sharing a photo from her American Idol audition 20 years ago. In the snap, the young Carrie is seen glued to her Nokia phone, ready to showcase her now-famous three-octave soprano pipes.

Reflecting on her journey, she wrote, “20 years ago I auditioned for the judges of @americanidol, and today I am now one of those judges searching for someone who wants to be an idol!”. Carrie is thrilled to be part of the show once more, now wearing a judge’s hat.

Virtual auditions are on the rise, a concept Carrie jokingly wishes existed during her time. Nationwide auditions for season 23 have already started, and Carrie is eager to find the next big star.

Carrie will replace Katy Perry and join current judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. She will make history as the first American Idol winner to take on the role of a judge on the show, a true full-circle moment for the star.

“It feels like home! There’s so many people that even still work on the show that were there when I was a contestant,” Carrie shared on GMA. She feels her experience as both a contestant and now a judge will allow her to offer valuable insights.

Carrie promises to be an honest yet constructive judge, focusing on encouraging contestants. She joked that her two sons, Isaiah Michael and Jacob Bryan, don’t find her too harsh.

Her journey to this role wasn’t without competition, as rival series The Voice had also shown interest in having her as a coach. However, her loyalty to American Idol ultimately won out.

An insider revealed that Carrie feels she is the best star to come from American Idol, believing that her role as a judge will further cement her legacy with the show.

Before stepping into her judging shoes, Underwood will continue her on/off Reflection residency at Resorts World Las Vegas, balancing her time between her performing career and her new judging duties.

Carrie Underwood’s return to American Idol as a judge marks a full-circle moment in her illustrious career.
