Dawn Robinson, the 58-year-old “Free Your Mind” singer, has shocked her fans with a candid revelation on YouTube: for the past three years, she has been living in her car.

Living in a car for three years might sound daunting to most, but for Dawn Robinson, it seems to be a journey of self-discovery and healing. Her decision to embrace this lifestyle came after a difficult time living with her parents in Las Vegas back in 2020. Her mother’s constant anger and conflict prompted Robinson to seek independence and peace, even if it meant living in her car.

“I love my mom, but she became very angry,” Robinson openly shared. “A lot of her anger, she was taking out on me.” The emotional turmoil became unbearable, leading her to take a bold step towards a new way of living.

A month into her new lifestyle, one of her managers encouraged her to move back to Los Angeles, offering to share his apartment. However, the arrangement didn’t last, as Robinson found herself sleeping in a hotel for eight months while searching for her own place. Despite her attempts to find a new home, her manager’s constant disapproval of potential apartments added to her challenges.

“Every apartment that I looked at, he would have an excuse,” she recounted, growing frustrated with the endless rejections. “I’m the one who has to live here,” she expressed, standing her ground as she continued her search.

Eventually, Robinson turned to the internet, exploring “car life” videos. Inspired by others who found peace in such unconventional living, she decided to fully embrace it. “I felt free,” she stated with contentment, likening her experience to a perpetual camping trip and a path to personal growth.

While Robinson acknowledges the challenges, she emphasises that her choice is about finding herself, not seeking pity. She draws strength from the stories of other celebrities who’ve lived similarly, noting it as an opportunity for personal development. “It’s not ‘woe is me.’ I’m learning about who I am, I’m learning myself as a person, as a woman,” she said.

Dawn Robinson’s journey from conventional living to “car life” reflects a quest for freedom and self-discovery. Her experiences highlight the resilience and strength needed to carve out one’s path, even in the face of adversity.
