Nelly, the famous “Hot In Herre” rapper, found himself in hot water early in the morning on August 7 in his hometown of St. Louis.
The arrest report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol detailed that Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes II, was caught with four ecstasy pills. The 49-year-old’s legal troubles didn’t end there; he also faced charges for failing to appear in court due to a previous traffic charge related to not having insurance.
State troopers stationed at the Hollywood Casino in St. Charles discovered the warrant violation when they asked Nelly for his ID. Upon searching him, they found the ecstasy pills. Nelly was then taken to the Maryland Heights Police Department but has since been released.
Interestingly, this arrest comes on the heels of some major personal milestones for Nelly. Less than four months ago, he and Ashanti announced their engagement and the exciting news that they were expecting their first child together. Public records also revealed that the couple had quietly tied the knot in December 2023.
The couple’s relationship history is quite the rollercoaster. They first dated in the early 2000s but split in 2013. However, in September 2023, Nelly confirmed on the “Boss Moves with Rasheeda” show that they had rekindled their romance. “I think it surprised both of us,” he said. “Sometimes being separate, you understand one another more.” This upcoming baby will be the first for the couple but Nelly’s third, as he already shares two children with ex Channetta Valentine and has also adopted his sister’s kids.
